Scholarly Communication: Open Access Publishing & Authors’ Rights
Dan Hood and Alexis Carlson (Librarians) *Since the 17th century, scholars and academics have formally communicated with their peers in periodically published journals. The publishers of these journals have created a system designed to strip authors of copyrights to their own work while increasing corporate profit. New Open Access publishing models that retain authors’ rights to their work rather than transferring copyright ownership to publishers have become increasingly relevant since the dawn of the Internet. This session covers the basics of Open Access journal publishing and retaining your rights as an author. |
